Backup power for a research station of the National Forest Centre in Gabčíkovo

When the grid drops, the instruments never notice. The switchover takes under 10 milliseconds.

Power available on backup

A research station of the National Forest Centre in Gabčíkovo measures around the clock. An outage there does not just switch off the lights: it stops instruments, leaves holes in long-term data series and puts sensitive equipment at risk. A SolisStorage EverCore system now stands between the grid and that work.

An outage costs more than the electricity

Research data is only as good as its continuity. A gap in a measurement series can invalidate months of work, and restarting a campaign costs far more than the outage that caused it. Sensitive instruments also dislike hard power cuts.

The station needed backup that takes over the instant the grid fails, runs quietly next to the work, and holds the load for as long as the outage lasts.

What we installed

The station is backed by a SolisStorage EverCore commercial and industrial storage system rated at 125 kW with 1,305 kWh of capacity. According to the Solis specifications it switches to backup in under 10 milliseconds, so connected equipment keeps running through a grid failure.

Outside outages the system is not idle capital: the same cabinet can store energy for everyday use and shave the site’s peaks.

System at a glance
  • SolisStorage EverCore C&I
  • 125 kW rated power
  • 1,305 kWh storage capacity
  • Switchover under 10 ms
  • LFP cells, 8,000 cycles
  • IP66 inverter, IP55 cabinet, C5 anti-corrosion

Battery or diesel generator?

Diesel generator
  • Seconds to start and take the load
  • Fuel deliveries and test runs
  • Noise and exhaust next to the work
  • Idle asset between outages
Battery storage
  • Switchover in milliseconds
  • No fuel, no test runs
  • Silent, no local emissions
  • Stores energy for everyday use too

Switchover time and technical data according to the Solis specifications for SolisStorage EverCore. For very long outages, storage can be combined with a photovoltaic system or a generator.

Questions we get about backup systems

According to the Solis specifications, in under 10 milliseconds. Connected equipment keeps running through the switchover.
It depends on the load you connect. As a rough guide, divide the usable capacity by the load: a 50 kW load runs for around 20 hours or more from a full system, before conversion losses.
On many sites, yes. Batteries take over instantly, need no fuel and make no noise. For outages measured in days, storage is usually combined with solar generation or kept alongside a generator.
Yes. Between outages the battery can store cheap or self-produced energy and cover consumption peaks, so the investment works every day, not only during a failure.
