Construction of new RES electricity sources and battery systems (2025)

06/04/2025

15/07/2025

The aim and purpose of the call is to increase the flexibility of electricity systems for higher integration of RES by supporting the modernization of pumped storage hydroelectric power plants and the construction of new electricity storage facilities – stationary battery systems, which serve to increase the available volume of power balance services according to the current needs of the electricity system caused by the stochastic nature of electricity production from RES, including through the storage of surplus electricity produced from RES.

Eligible applicants:

  • In the framework of this call, the eligible applicant is a natural or legal person authorised to conduct business pursuant to Article 2(2)(a) to (c) of the Commercial Code.

Eligible Activities:

  • Eligible for the purposes of this call are projects, the subject of which are investment expenditures for the construction/installation of new equipment for electricity production from RES together with the installation of new equipment for electricity storage (connected before the transmission point of the equipment for electricity production from RES) – battery system.
  • This means that the subject of each project under this call must be the construction/installation of a new RES electricity production facility and at the same time the installation of a new electricity storage facility – battery system, which will be connected upstream of the transmission point of the RES electricity production facility that is the subject of the project
  • A project meets the eligibility condition if all of the following conditions are met:
    • A RES electricity generation facility must use:
      • solar or wind energy for the direct production of electricity, or
      • geothermal energy, biomass, biogas, landfill gas or gas from wastewater treatment plants to generate electricity through combined heat and power.
    • the subject of the project may be exclusively one RES electricity production facility, whereby one RES electricity production facility is understood as a facility or group of facilities which are connected directly or via a transformer to a direct line, to the distribution system or to the transmission system in the territory of the Slovak Republic at a common point (collection and transmission point) and are used for the production of electricity from the same type of RES or for the production of electricity by combined production from the same type of RES.
    • a RES electricity production facility can only be the subject of one application (i.e. a RES electricity production facility cannot be the subject of more than one application);
    • the total installed capacity of the RES electricity production facility that is the subject of the project must be a minimum of 0.5 MW inclusive and a maximum of 5 MW inclusive;
    • for an electricity storage facility (hereinafter referred to as a “battery system”), all of the following conditions shall apply simultaneously:
      • the battery system must be connected at the off-take and transfer point of the RES electricity production facility that is the subject of the project, on the side of the electricity producer (the applicant) of the electricity produced by the RES electricity production facility that is the subject of the project;
      • the installed capacity of the battery system shall be at least 0,05 MW (50 kW);
      • the capacity of the battery system shall be at least 0,1 MWh (100 kWh);
      • the nominal capacity of the battery system shall be equal to or greater than the nominal installed capacity of the battery system;
      • the installed capacity of the battery system shall not exceed the installed capacity of the new RES electricity generation facility that is the subject of the project connected to the grid at that transfer point;
      • the battery system must take at least 75% of its energy on an annual basis from a directly connected RES electricity generation facility, according to the following principle connection scheme:
    • The implementation of the project must result in:
      • additional installed capacity for renewable energy in MW (this is the total installed capacity of the new RES electricity generation plant connected to the distribution/transmission system in the territory of the Slovak Republic, which is supported by the mechanism under this call) and at the same time
      • the installed capacity of the new electricity storage facility (battery system) in MW and at the same time
      • the capacity of the new electricity storage facility (battery system) in MWh. The applicant shall quantify the result of the project implementation through the measurable indicators defined in the application form in the ISPO. Completion of the substantive implementation of the project shall be specified in the application by 30 June 2026 at the latest.

Financial conditions of the call:

  • Total allocation: EUR 30 000 000
  • The maximum aid intensity for the project is set at 45 % of the total eligible expenditure of the project following a competitive tendering procedure
  • The maximum amount of the mechanism per project shall not exceed EUR 2 500 000
